Salary: National Living Wage for the first 6 months, rising to £9 per hour after your initial 6 months with us

Hours: 30 per week

Contract: Initial 6 months with Kickstart then extended to 12 months and potentially permanently into other roles within the team for the right candidate.

Role Description

Application Form

Through the Governments Kickstart program, we are looking to take on a number of Generalist Advisor roles. These are trainee roles, so you do not need any experience.

You will be given a thorough induction & training program within Citizens Advice to allow you to deal with a full range of enquires from any of our clients. The training will enable you, for example, to advise people on their employment rights, if they are getting the right benefits, what to do if they have been given notice to leave their home You will also be trained in how to interview clients and make a record of the interviews. You will be fully supported in your work with clients.

Initially helping clients by phone, we will help you develop your skills to include giving advice by web chat & video and of course, subject to Covid, face to face as soon as we can reopen our services.

Alongside the initial training we will continue to develop you & your skills during your time with us with the potential to extend your contract by at another 6 months & then hopefully permanently into other roles within the team.

We value diversity and promote equality and would welcome applications from candidates with disabilities and ethnic minority applicants as these groups are under-represented in our workforce

We aren’t looking for brilliant GCSE’s, A Levels or a first-class degree we are looking for people with an understanding of the situations our clients may find themselves in and a willingness to not accept “no” as the first answer. We are looking for people, who are willing to embark on an intensive learning programme, during which you will be fully supported and guided. This is not an academic learning program, you will be learning in the workplace and applying your learning in real situations with support and guidance.

(As a guide to the training commitment involved the basic generalist Citizens Advice Adviser Training is very similar to a QCF Level 3 in Providing initial Legal Advice. A QCF level 3 is equivalent to an ‘A’ Level”)
