Information and Advice
We know that money-worries can be all-consuming
The Financial Welfare Rights team offer a specialised advice service to provide support through maximising income and offering advice on issues associated with the cost of the cancer. For nearly 20-years we have been supporting people affected by cancer, at any stage of their journey and patients referred to us by Dorothy House Hospice for cancer or other life-limiting conditions.
- Access statutory entitlements to increase your income
- Look at options to reduce your expenditure
This will ensure you get the maximum amount of money for your household needs.
The Financial Welfare Rights Service is a free information and advice service providing support to people living in Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucester, Mendip & Frome and South Bristol. We support people and their carers at any stage of cancer: at diagnosis, during treatment, after hospital discharge, at end of life, and funeral advice for bereaved carers.
We supply financial income maximisation advice for our referral partners at the Royal United Hospital, Bath and Dorothy House Hospice.
“I can now focus on my treatment and no longer have to worry about money”
How can we help?
We will meet with you, in your home, in a virtual meeting, or over the phone, to:
- Make sense of your financial situation
- Advise you on your statutory entitlements, grants etc
- Show you how to access financial support, when identified
- Support you in making any benefits application
After gathering information, we will work with you to prepare a plan of action. A dedicated Financial Wellbeing Advisor acts as your single point of contact. They will stay in close contact, to support you and update you on the progress of any claim.
What do we aim for?
At the appointment, we will work with you to enable you to afford access to your treatment, to stay warm at home and to remove worries about outstanding bill
“When I was referred to your service I felt as though I was hurtling towards disaster when along came the Macmillan parachute and I glided safely to the ground and can now focus on my treatment and no longer worry about money. Your team really are life-savers.”
