Here are some useful suggestions about ways you can replace an item like a fridge, or to borrow a tool or piece of equipment you only need for a short time.

Reconditioned electrical items are occasionally offered by some shops that advertise that they do repairs, e.g. Bath Domestic Appliances, Julian Road, Bath BA1 2RS. Open Monday –Saturday 9.30am-5pm, 01225 427289, but ring first to check if they have the item you want.

Repairs

  • Bath Repair Cafe. Volunteers show you how to repair broken appliances, bicycles, computers and help you do this. You are invited to make a voluntary donation. Sessions are scheduled for one Saturday a month from 10am to 1pm. See shareandrepair.org.uk/repair-cafes for a full list of cafes that run each month.

Borrowing items

  • Bath Borrow It lend out useful items needed for occasional use like tools, household and gardening equipment, and child and baby equipment. You need to register and there is no charge for the loan but they do ask you to make a small donation (£1 or 50p).

Free computer access
Public access computers are available at all library branches in BANES for use free of charge. They can be used to access emails, software packages, social networking and entertainment. All libraries apart from Moorland Road and the mobile library also have free WiFi access.

  • Central Library at the Bath Podium provides free half-hour computer sessions without booking as well as pre-booked 2-hour sessions for library card holders. After 60 mins, another session can be booked. Open Monday –Thursday 9.30am – 6pm. Friday & Saturday 9.30am – 5pm & Sunday 1pm -4pm. 01225 394041
